Day 18

I wake up around 5 am. I just can’t sleep any longer on those hard camp beds. I find or make coffee first thing. I have actually become quite addicted to coffee every morning. Dang!

We finally got our wireless up after two weeks. I have been on a public computer, so I didn't feel like blogging. Most of our time is very organized and we had so much to do and not a lot of down time. Maybe the next two weeks will be better.

We started with the High School session yesterday. They are a much more concentrated group compared to the middle school. At first they look so mature compared to the ten to fourteen. But I am getting used to their more mature faces. They still are very young squeaky things.

Camp food is really sad. But the salad bar is saving us. I went to the grocery store and bought a ton of Amy’s burrito’s and yogurt. We do get spoiled on the Saturday night party with booze and the fresh catch. Last Saturday the host boiled 25 fresh crabs and we circled around the table and tore their bodies apart. It was a little shocking. But I do like a little crab.

More later…

Day 2

Wake up early. Yes, the sun was already up

Breakfast & teacher introductions

Find class room and set up the computers to fit our needs.

The excitement in the air is hopeful. The amount of classes offered here are amazing. Drama, Music, Voice, Dance, Animation, Filmmaking, Photography, Painting, Photoshop, Sculpture, Beading, Carving, Ceramics…

Day 1

7 am Taxi drive to airport.
Airplane to seattle
Airplane to Sitka

Arrive at Sitka Fine Arts Camp
Walk around Sitka the town

Introductions and cookout ( best salmon ever!!)

Make friends with other visual artists !!

Make house and sleep okay

Impressions:
Ravens are huge compared to Crows. Ravens sounds different than crows. They almost sound like they are laughing. Rather comical and silly sort of like hyenas. And then I remember they are the tricksters of the area.

Sitka is beautiful! Flying over the area is amazing. There are little tree mounds on the water that look like they are on stacked pieces of slate floating on the water.

The town so far seems to live in a perpetual fog. It feels like a Japanese print of the mountains that are embraced by clouds. But there is a colorful fishing village with a little group of boats on the water.

Sitka or Bust

New blog today! Four days left to go. Oh my!

This is for our dear friends who want to watch Scott and Shelly go on an Alaskan Adventure. Scott will be teaching Photoshop to Junior High and High School kids. I will be assisting. And trying not to get bit from flying blood-sucking insects.

I found some duffel bags with wheels today to pack all our bedding and towels, not to mention a month's worth of stuff. I will try to take some pictures soon. And we will try to post daily.

Take care,
Shelly
